The European Social Model in a Global Perspective
Du vendredi 06 mars 2009 au samedi 07.03.2009
Abbaye de Neumünster, Luxembourg-Grund
The conference is open to the public, but preliminary inscription is obligatory (Nicole.Hegerle@ceps.lu or Esther.ZANA-NAU@ceps.lu).
A high-level academic conference on the challenges faced by the European Social Model in the global context.
The social model has become a matter of debate. Most Europeans see in it a shield that is indispensable to protect workers against negative consequences from the globalisation process. Others argue on the contrary that it has become a burden, hampering the competitiveness of European economies in a global environment.
The conference will address both of these views and also highlight the fact that there is no common approach within the EU regarding theses issues. Particular attention will be given to the question of greater flexibility and the new concept of flexicurity introduced in the Nordic countries.
